The JMitFit Report | September 2026

Your Monthly Fitness, Mindset, and Motivation Guide from Jamel Mitchell Fitness

Quote of the Month

“A routine isn’t a restriction. It’s a foundation.”

Workout of the Month: Back-to-Routine Strength Circuit

Goal: Reestablish a consistent training rhythm while developing total-body strength and conditioning.

Equipment Needed: Barbell, dumbbells, cable machine, bench, kettlebell

Perform 3 rounds • Rest 60–90 seconds between rounds

1. Barbell Back Squat — 4 x 8
Keep your chest tall, brace your core, and control the descent. Drive through the floor as you stand.

2. Dumbbell Bench Press — 3 x 10
Lower under control and press with purpose. Keep your shoulder blades anchored to the bench.

3. Romanian Deadlift — 3 x 10
Push your hips back while maintaining a neutral spine. Focus on loading the hamstrings and glutes.

4. Seated Cable Row — 3 x 12
Pull toward your torso, squeeze the shoulder blades together, and control the return.

5. Kettlebell Swing — 3 x 15
Generate power from the hips rather than lifting with the arms.

JMF Coaching Tip: Don’t try to make up for an inconsistent summer in one week. Rebuild your routine one workout at a time.

Mindset Tip: Get Back to Your Basics

September brings structure back into our lives.

School starts. Vacations slow down. Work schedules settle. Fall routines begin.

Use that change to your advantage.

Instead of setting ten new goals, identify the two or three habits that make everything else easier.

Maybe it’s getting to the gym three times each week.

Maybe it’s preparing your meals.

Maybe it’s getting to bed earlier.

Your routine doesn’t need to be complicated. It needs to be repeatable.

Turkey Taco Stuffed Sweet Potatoes

A satisfying, protein-packed meal that works beautifully for meal prep as schedules get busier.

Ingredients | 4 Servings

For the Sweet Potatoes

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

  • Salt and pepper

For the Turkey Taco Filling

  • 1 lb lean ground turkey

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • ½ yellow onion, diced

  • 1 bell pepper, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder

  • 1 teaspoon cumin

  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

  • ½ teaspoon oregano

  • Salt and pepper

  • ½ cup black beans, drained and rinsed

  • ½ cup salsa

For Topping

  • Diced avocado

  • Chopped tomatoes

  • Fresh cilantro

  • Plain Greek yogurt

  • Fresh lime

Directions

1. Bake the sweet potatoes.
Preheat oven to 400°F. Pierce each sweet potato several times with a fork and bake for approximately 45–55 minutes, or until tender.

2. Prepare the turkey.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper and cook until softened.

Add garlic and cook for another minute.

3. Add the protein.
Add ground turkey and cook until browned and fully cooked.

Stir in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.

4. Finish the filling.
Add black beans and salsa. Simmer for approximately 3–5 minutes.

5. Build your meal.
Slice open each sweet potato and lightly fluff the inside with a fork. Spoon the turkey mixture over the top.

Finish with avocado, tomatoes, cilantro, Greek yogurt, and fresh lime.

Approximate Nutrition Per Serving

Calories: 450–550
Protein: 35–40g
Carbohydrates: 45–55g
Fat: 12–16g

Why This Meal Works

Sweet potatoes provide carbohydrates to replenish energy and support training.

Lean turkey delivers high-quality protein for muscle repair and recovery.

Black beans add fiber, protein, and slow-digesting carbohydrates.

Avocado provides healthy fats and makes the meal more satisfying.

Greek yogurt gives you the creaminess of sour cream while adding additional protein.

JMF Nutrition Tip: Make the turkey mixture in bulk on Sunday. During the week, all you have to do is reheat a sweet potato and add the filling. Healthy eating becomes much easier when the decision has already been made.

Member Spotlight

The People Behind JMF

September is a good time to recognize something that can easily get lost when we’re talking about workouts, programs, and results:

The people are what make JMF.

Some members have been here for years. Others walked through the doors for the first time this year.

Different ages. Different abilities. Different goals.

But everyone shares the willingness to work toward becoming better.

To our longtime members, thank you for continuing to set the standard.

To our newer members, keep building.

And to everyone who walks through those doors each week, thank you for making JMF more than simply a place to exercise.

We’re building a community around health, performance, and longevity.

Coach’s Corner

Fitness Myth: “More Exercise Always Means Better Results”

More isn’t automatically better.

Better is better.

Your body adapts during recovery, not while you’re continuously beating it into the ground.

Training hard matters, but so do:

Sleep
Nutrition
Hydration
Recovery
Proper programming

Five poorly recovered workouts aren’t necessarily better than three excellent ones.

Your goal shouldn’t be to see how much exercise you can survive.

Your goal is to find the amount of training that allows you to consistently improve.

Fall Training Focus

The Final Quarter Is Coming

September gives us an opportunity to look ahead.

October. November. December.

Instead of waiting until January to think about your goals, use the next few months to build momentum before the New Year’s resolutions arrive.

Ask yourself:

Where do I want to be physically by December 31?

Stronger?

Leaner?

Moving better?

More consistent?

More energetic?

Whatever the answer is, the work starts now.

Three months of consistent effort can change a lot.

Coach’s Message

September has always felt like a second New Year.

Schedules return. Routines settle down. Life gets a little more structured.

Use it.

Don’t wait until January to decide that something needs to change.

There are still four months left in 2026.

That’s four months to get stronger.

Four months to improve your health.

Four months to establish better habits.

Four months to prove to yourself what consistency can accomplish.

You don’t need a New Year’s resolution.

You need a September decision.

Let’s get to work.
